What Is It:
Dermaplaning does so much more than remove hair from the skin. It's a skin treatment that uses a surgical blade to gently and safely exfoliate dead skin cells and fine facial hair. Along with facial fuzz (called vellus hair), the process removes three to four weeks of dead skin cells and buildup of dirt and oils in the hair follicles. As you remove the hair and dead skin cells, you'll quickly notice how much brighter and softer your skin appears. It also creates an ideal canvas for flawless makeup application and allows for improved topical absorption helping treatment serums penetrate the skin deeper. It also triggers the cell regeneration process, prevents breakouts, reduces the appearance of large pores, and leaves a brighter, tighter complexion. You will be amazed at all the fine hair, dirt and dead skin that comes off of your face and is just as safe as shaving your legs.
This is a painless, low-risk skin treatment that can be added to your beauty routine. It is extremely convenient, and contrary to what some believe, your facial hair will NOT grow back thicker!
What To Expect During Treatment:
Many people find the treatment relaxing. Most people describe the feeling similar to when someone gently scratches your back!
Post procedure, some light redness can be expected but in general you can expect minimal discomfort during the session but may, however, depending on each individual’s skin tolerance, experience temporary redness once the procedure is over. Sensitivity to the area being treated could last up to 10 days.*
What Areas Can Be Improved & Results:
Dermaplaning targets the 'peach fuzz' (the invisible, baby hairs that commonly crop up on cheeks and around the hairline). This hair is technically known as vellus hair and is distinctly different to the dark, thick terminal hair, which grows on our heads, underarms and pubic area. Another important point to make is that vellus hair doesn't grow back stubbly.
Dermaplaning is safe for most skin types, especially those with sun damage, fine lines, dry patches, and dull skin. But of course, there are caveats: If you have highly reactive, sensitive skin (like those with rosacea or keratosis pilaris), you may want to pass on this one, since it might irritate your skin. The same goes for anyone with inflamed acne—as sliding a sharp scalpel over your zits can irritate them and worsen existing breakouts by spreading bacteria.
